Spocko needs a Comedy Break

Can you IMAGINE people using a science fiction TV show to make a point about politics?

That was hilarious, I get to see The Daily Show International Edition once a week on Satellite, but my only comment is: Is the Congressman referring to original series green skin Klingons, or Spin off Kilngons?
There is a difference, you know......

Good lord, Leonard Nimoy has turned into George Burns!

Those two are national treasures.

The roles they played help us remember that Federation is better than Empire.

The original Star Trek series DID quite often make points about contemporary politics. I'm thinking about one episode in particular where the Romulans and the Federation were supplying arms to two sides fighting a proxy war on some planet - a clear parallel to Vietnam. I would imagine that the episodes that could be interpreted as having some political point to make were in the majority.

Unlike the Klingons, the Busheviks and their allies have no honor, and as Congressman Wu pointed out, few of them have ever fought in any battles themselves.

I'm not so familiar with the Cardassians--I'm only thoroughly familiar with the original series--but I seem to recall they were originally not warlike, but took to conquest because their resources were running out back home. Likewise, once upon a time, USAmerican conservatives generally opposed our intervening in foreign affairs. [One can still find such old-fashioned conservatives, along with a few of us liberal folks, at antiwar.com] However, a lot of the US Right has taken to warmongering these days. Hmm, you don't suppose that might have a LITTLE something to do with the fact that we've run out of sufficient supplies of domestic petroleum to run our wasteful society, do you?

OTOH, the USA Right's worship of money makes them resemble the Ferengi.

As for the "Christian" Right ["scribes and Pharisees" Right would be more accurate], their determination to make everyone else conform to their cruel and UN-Godly value system reminds me of the Borg.

Resistance is fertile. We will NOT be assimilated. :)

Spocko:

Jon Stewart is all wet on this one. Vulcans is indeed what the viciously incompetent Cold War wannabe Condi Rice called her little circle of neocons, and what Bush called her, Perle and Wolfowitz at the White House. Wu did not make that up.

And I think Wu is a Star Trek fan. Actually spock was the most liberal, secular-humanist character on the Enterprise, and the least warlike and imperialist.
